We’ve all heard this story before: “I would love to get started on my goals, but I can’t because I’m busy helping others.”
The story sounds nice. It has an altruistic premise and makes your story sound reasonable.
But unfortunately it’s an excuse.
Doing important work is challenging because it drains a considerable amount of mental energy and it can be scary to push into the unknown. So instead of admitting we are afraid of the challenge, we need a good cover story.
Our minds are great at creating ego enhancing excuses to dodge important work. If we can’t use goodwill towards man as an excuse we will then use work, lack of resources, or other excuses to abscond from our responsibilities to ourselves.
The excuses help us ease the pain of not being true to ourselves, but over time the pain becomes unbearable.
Eventually a decision will have to be made to see things for how they are or continue with the excuses.
But the question is, will you do this now? Or will you wait until it’s too late?
